What is a Herniated Disc?

A herniated disc occurs when a disc in the spine is damaged from an injury, normal wear and tear, or disease. When this happens the disc may bulge or rupture resulting in a "Herniated Disc".

The herniated disc can pinch the nerves or spinal chord causing severe pain and/or numbness to wherever those nerves go. A herniated Disc is often referred to as  a "slipped" or "ruptured" disc.

How do you get a Herniated Disc?

Disk herniation is most often the result of a gradual, aging-related wear and tear called disc degeneration.

Avoid Painful Back or Neck Surgery

Effective, high tech Spinal Decompression therapy now exists to avoid invasive spine surgery.

  Does Spinal Decompression Work?

The cycles of spine decompression and partial relaxation, over a series of visits, promote the diffusion of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids from the outside of the discs to the inside. These nutrients enable the torn and degenerated disc fibers to begin to heal.

Austin's Texas Spine and Sports Therapy Center has one of the only advanced non-surgical spinal decompression clinics in Austin Tx for treating neck pain, back pain, herniated disc pain, and back injuries.

Fortunately, our spinal decompression devices are unlike "typical" spine traction devices that are still used throughout the country. We proudly offer our patients the DRX system. We goal is to be the "Best Spinal Decompression Clinic in Austin!"

How Does Decompression Work?

Dr. Atencio and the staff at Texas Spine and Sports Therapy Center offer only FDA approved techniques to treat herniated back and neck disc pain and injury. The advanced DRX decompression technology applies distraction forces to spinal structures which relieve the compression of spinal nerves by gently separating the vertebrae from one another, resulting in retraction of herniated and bulging discs.

The process has been proven to relieve pain by

Enlarging the spinal disc space
Reducing spinal herniation
Strengthening supporting spinal ligaments to help move herniated disc material back into place
Reversing high intradiscal pressure through the application of negative pressure.

How the DRX9000 is different than standard traction machines

The lumbar DRX9000 is an innovative technology that uses spinal decompression to treat various spinal conditions. It is being hailed as a state of the art alternative to invasive and risky back surgery. Axiom Worldwide developed the technology and it has received FDA clearance for treatment of back pain. The DRX9000 is effective in treating herniated discs and degenerative disc disease. It has also shown to be effective in treating sciatica. It should be noted that not all patients are good candidates for the DRX9000. We will will evaluate each patient independently.

The DRX9000 uses traction to slowly and gently elongate the spine to increase the intervertebral disc spaces. The process is precise, which eliminates the risk for additional injury. The machine is computer controlled and programmed by a trained professional.

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal Decompression Therapy DRX is an advanced non-surgical, drug free computerized technology that provides pain relief for disc herniations. Spinal Decompression provides a series of gentle, comfortable treatments to promote healing of the discs. In fact, many patients find treatments to be relaxing.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy produces the forces and positions required to cause decompression of the intervertebral discs. Decompression is the unloading due to distraction and positioning of the spine. This therapy produces negative pressure within the disc to allow the particular disc injury to heal naturally. Conditions that may be treated include: back pain, low back pain, neck pain, herniated discs, protruding discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome and sciatica

Severe, moderate, chronic back ache and neck pain are debilitating and painful conditions affecting many. If these problems are left untreated, they can result in extensive, painful and serious conditions throughout the rest of the body.
